Get to Know Me

Hi, I’m Kelsey, and I’m excited to meet you! It’s been an interesting journey how I got here, so let me introduce myself! I’m 34 years old and getting younger all the time. I am located in Danbury, CT, but I’m a Jersey girl born and raised. I grew up in central (if you believe it exists) NJ, not “Jersey Shore” Jersey, and grew up with a camera in my hand. At 5 years old, you could find me with a disposable camera in my hands, chasing our dog with the camera. I absolutely loved it, and still do. It doesn’t get any better than capturing special memories, beautiful details, and gorgeous light!

Obviously photography was my career choice, right? Uhhhh, eventually. :) Somehow at the age of 17, I somehow managed to be mature enough to realize that you don’t need a college degree to be a successful photographer, however you did generally need a degree for a practical fall back career. And so, armed with the knowledge that I was good at math and no clue what I was truly getting into, I started my career in public accounting.

I spent over ten years as an auditor, and although I was pretty successful and enjoyed my job, the stress of the corporate world made me question exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up. After all this time, I started questioning why in the world I chose accounting, when all of the things that brought me joy and drove me forward were creative - my favorite hobby outside of photography is cooking, and I’ve always enjoyed expressing myself through makeup and nail art.

After battling back fears of making the wrong career choice, I began assisting local wedding photographers with the encouragement of a dear friend (here’s to you, Tina xoxo) in the industry, and I fell in even more in love. At the end of the day I felt alive and fulfilled, instead of drained and ready for my next vacation. I’ve assisted multiple photographers in the NJ and NY area for about a year and a half now, and have started dipping my toe into second shooting.

I’m really looking forward to moving forward with my new career and even better if I meet some great new friends in the process!

Last, but most certainly not least, extra special thanks to Christina Meerloo for always believing in and encouraging me (and sometimes employing me), and Susan Stripling for letting me tie streamers and other various shiny objects to your belongings. I would not be at this point in my life without either of you and everything I’ve learned, I’ve learned from you two. ♥
